Kim Seng Road Blk 91 Kopitiam

yummy yummy yummy!!! this coffee shop is just a traffic light away from my office and i feel they serve the best (maybe not the best) fish and seafood soup... sweet and light... add rice to it and have a sumptuous meal...
fish slices that are fresh and firm to the bite... not to worry about daily intake of veggie and all... coz they throw in tofu and lettuce as well...

sometimes, if its available, i'll add in fish egg as well..... hmm... ugly looking little stuff that does not really have any taste but well... just for the fun of it...

not forgetting the seafood soup as well... generous amount of sotong, fish and a big sweet prawn as well... always love the sweet fresh seafood and also veggie and tofu...

Da

-be prepared to wait during busy lunch hour as they're super busy dealing with rush hour

-they do offer yam rice as well for the fish soup other then plain white rice

Fishermen's wharf

disappointment is all that i can say for Fishermen's Wharf located just opposite Central the menu looks abit dilapidated, bit oily as well

fish and chips - serving was ok, but the fish and fries felt bit too oily... fish was quite fresh

calamari - as usual, one word. OILY!!! portion was big enough for 2 to share as appetiser but it was way too oily...

cod fish and chips - didn't felt like cod at all... 3 miserable pieces... worse of all OILY!!!! not very sure why is there such a crowd during weekday but the food does not seem too appetising to me after bring presented all the OIL!!!

whats the worse dining experience you can ever have?? YES!!! to be placed right infront of a TOILET!!! the dinner was already a not very good experience and what had totally spoilt my appetite was this TOILET seat... people waling in and out of the toilet without even having the courtesy of closing the door behind them!!! one word: DISAPPOINTED i was so upset that i wrote this and put it right on the table visible for everyone to see... i don't find anything wrong coz we were being placed right in front of the ttoilet as if we were toilet janitor...

Da
-worst dining experience i ever had... was so disappointed!!!
-prepare cash as nets and crdit cards are not accepted
-be prepared to smell like a kitchen after food
-doubt i'll be back

记得吃

this shop is tucked away at the far end of liang seah street at bugis. crowded most of the times but serves traditional desserts like glutinous rice balls, sesame paste, walnut paste and almosd paste... all sorts of ""old"" desserts that gramps would love... if my memory did not fail me, this should be called 杨枝杆露-甜在心... huge pieces of mango with coconut milk and the not to be missed sago... like what its name suggest, sweet at heart... if ur a fan of mango and coconut, you should give it a try...

杨枝杆露-traditional mango pomelo, filled with mango cubes, pomelo pulps and sago... sweet to the mouth with a tinge of bitterness from the pomelo. NICE

榴连糯糍-NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!! looks like any normal durian mochi, but ur wrong!! the durian filling is so rich that one would think that you are eating the durian on its own... mochi skin abit thick, would taste even better with thinner skin... yummy!!!

does this looks like a pillow to you? just that it is decorated with coconut silvers... making this season merry!!!
Da
-Sorry for the long time last update
-price of the durian mochi might be a bit steep but worth trying if u are a durian lover

Chicken Rice

This stall is located in People's Park Complex at a little corner. Very unique taste as we ordered steamed chicken but it tasted like roasted chicken. cant figure out why was that so. Sauce was just nice and not too salty, chili was just right as well. They do also sell Claypot Fish-Head as well.
Ordered additional Ko Kee Yong Tau Fu, soup was really sweet as if it was artificial. Pieces of yong tau fu but feels little pricey, $3.50 for about 6 - 7 pcs with no noodles. Da
-would be back to try the fish-head someday
-still wondering if there's too much MSG in the yong tau fu

Mochi

This shop is located at basement 2 at Plaza Singapura. Sells cute little mochi look alike balls but i think they are made from rice flour. less chewy and sticky but because they will put the orders in this machine,
it will actually heat up the mochi balls and they are soft and hot to the bite.

Da
-Best taken on a cold day
-if u are a sweet-tooth, as it may be a little sweet on the palate

Central

Are u aware that there's a foodcourt at Central? (Clarke Quay). it's located on level 4 called : My Dining Room at Kopitiam. Like any other foodcourt, just that the view is nicer than the normal Kopitiams we frequent.
Ordered Hotplate Beef - soup provided was pathetic coz of the oversize metal pot for soup and also
Braised Beef Tendons - order if u like chewy stuffs. nothing fascinating, nothing special.
but the Kopitiam is alot quieter than the usual ones, nice place for food if you are able to find yummy food/ munchies.

Da
-Quite some stalls for u to choose from
-do find yourself a nice window seat, nice scenery.

Sakae Sushi

Sakae Sushi at Sun Plaza. Deco was nice, but 1 thing bad is about the hot water tap for our green tea, there's no ''sink'' for the extra water to flow to and more often than not, the table will get wet. Ordered items like

Fried Chicken Curry Don - Was not fantastic like what my friend told me it used to be, chicken was tender and nice however, will get little soggy after soaked too long in the curry.
Tuna Sashimi - worse lot of all. the tuna look like beef and was limp looking, requested for a change and was done so reluctantlyChawanmushi - was only warm , not piping hot at all.

Mentaiko Tofu - it's actually deep fried tofu with some paste look-alike stuff on top. apparently, it taste of teeny weeny bit of Mentaiko and other than that was super duper thick mayo. failed badly, unlike the one i had at Nanjya Monjya(Waterfront Plaza).
Hotate Kimchi Soup - boiling hot soup kimchi style, with wong bok, some jap fish cakes and spinach. but the Hotate was just 2 small miserable ones. Beef Ramen - served in a super big bowl, soup tasted a little like a whole pot of frozen chicken drumstick stock. altho nice and slurpy but abit ''scratch head'' for a bowl of beef noodles to taste more like chicken noodles. Best in the bowl was that egg.. egg white was just right yet the yolk looks very ''candied''. 糖心
p.s there is this irritating looking sushi looking at us while making its way thru the little ones heart. begging the kids to eat them... but i find it juz tooooo evil looking and toooo irritating as it by pass us almost once every 3 mins. ARGH!!!!
Da

-do rmb to ask for a additional bowl of curry gravy to go with the Chicken Curry Don
-also pay by POSB/DBS credit or debit card to get 10% for the total bill.

Tiong Shian Porridge

True blue cantonese porridge to whet ur appetite esp if u love the mashy and sticky textured porridge. This shop has been around for decades and the crowd as well. like me, i've been brought up eating this porridge since young with my grannie (who stays opp). A not to be missed includes. raw fish - sliced raw fish in fried oil and lettuce, eat it with some lime juice and chili to have the omph. and also the frog porridge - smooth porridge paired with succulent pieces of frog. the coffee shop looks little old but always bustling with people no matter young or old.
located infront of the Chinatown Hawker, Beside CK-the departmental store

Da
-apologies for no pictures
-if u like the raw fish, order it Big without lettuce and fried onion, it seems a bigger plate. *shrugs

Marvellous Cream

Another yummy dessert which i frequent... Marvellous cream located at the end of City Link toward Suntec City is a dessert shop which sells Cakes and also Ice-creams... Cakes taste fresh altho frozen(maybe to preserve the freshness) Tried almost half of their cakes and it left me asking for more each time i finish mine... Tiramisu, Mont Blanc, Exotic Passion... and more!!! the ice cream are mixed right before ur eyes and u are able to see them mix in the ingredients of the choice of ice-cream!!! friends of whom i introduced to try have said it taste real nice!! YUMMY YUMMY!!!
Da
-another must tries for all the flavours
-smells really sweet at the shop

鼎泰酆

Best小笼包belongs to 鼎泰酆. Juicy and tender... succulent and YUMMY!!! Fav dish there is of coz小笼包and pork chop noodle... but always orders the hot and spicy soup, 小笼包, pork chop noodle and shrimp fried rice... nice... service getting better as well... they now have a ''basket'' for you to dump ur bag(and also covered with a napkin) in so that u won't need to balance bags on ur laps while eating... affordable... average check of $50 for 2 with the above food ordered...

Da
-Must visit at least once a month!!!

Bakerzin

Breko

This is a little cosy corner at the end bugis village stretch... opens from weekdays 0930 to 0000 hrs and weekends from 0830 to 0300. bottles of beer from $12 for 2 btls. perfect if ur watching ur fav team during matches... If ur there for breakfast, it'll be the best place to people watch as others are all rushing to work and u are sitting right there sipping coffee and eating pancakes... Perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. Serves decent food like steaks and pastas as well at reasonable prices.

da
-i've yet to spend my perfect morning at such a perfect place to people watch...
-i've also spent my birthdays there coz of the variety and price...
-apologises for pictures with just my bdae celebration...

Marche

Went to Marche for dinner since i've been craving for it after HMV's branch ceased operation. Tsk tsk tsk... disappointed!! service was good tho was offered pieces of sweet bread while waiting almost 1 hr in the Queue. Felt that standard of food dropped drastically. Prices up and Quality down... Bill was $80+ for 2... nt very filling as well... sadz...

da
-maybe back for ambience but nt so much for the food

Sakae Teppanyaki

Thats when the sushi at Sakae is not the main lead.. Tried Teppanyaki at Plaza Singapura. Reasonable price... ranges bout 20+ for a meal, had beef (came with foie gras) and seafood (came with bamboo clam). Food and ingredietns used was fresh except for the burnt garlic which added bitter after taste to the food, felt that too much garlic was used... Nice creativity by using Onion to hold the Chawanmushi-which meant the chawanmuchi was in a onion instead of the normal ceramic holder. Ups for freshness, Down for burnt garlic...

da
-do remember to ask for less garlic if ur nt a big fan of it
-also do bring a bottle of perfume if ur going somewhere else after ur meal... (u wun wan to smell like a kitchen)

Pork Aspic

Have guys heard of the 猪脚冻? It might look a little disgusting to some people as it looks like jelly, Indeed.. its actually pork together with gelatin and pork skin together with ears cooked for hours and squashed into a meat loaf looking container. placed in the fridge and viola... the pork aspic is formed. It's meant to be a cold dish (think appetiser). The gelatin will ''melt'' if place out of the fridge for a long time... avail at Jalan Besar level 2, sells 沙鱼冻 as well... but do not that a $5 portion does not come in a plateful of Pork Aspic!! Yummy!!!
